Description of Data
OSNI Road Network is an accurate vector digital dataset created and maintained by Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland (OSNI) in conjunction with N. I. Road Service.
OSNI Road Network contains road categories, from motorways and dual carriageways to minor and unclassified roads.
OSNI have collected Road Centre Line (RCL) data within the OSNI Large Scale database for the whole of Northern Ireland. The Road Centre Line dataset was extracted from the Largescale database and was surveyed at a scale of 1:1250 in urban areas and 1:2500 in rural areas. Specific details of road geometry collection and capture techniques can be found in the OSNI Large-scale Specification document.
OSNI Road Network is a continuous, topologically clean network, which has been attributed with a Road Service ID and matched against the PRIMARY_THORFARE field in OSNI’s Pointer address dataset.

Attributes
| Attribute | Description |
|---|---|
| OBJECTID | A system generated attribute. |
| RSID | Road Service ID - The ID held by Road Service in their Client Database for each section of road. Not all road geometry in the Road Network will have an RSID. Road sections such as private lanes or footpaths may exist in OSNI Road Network but not in the Roads Service Client Database. In most cases an RSID consists of several ESU sections. There can be rare exceptions in cases where there are no road junctions between the start and finish of the Roads Service description, where an RSID can be equivalent to one ESU. |
| CLASS | Defines the Road Classification for each road and is supplied by Roads Service Some roads will not contain road classifications. These are mainly private roads, alleyways and tracks that are present in the OSNI Road Network but are not maintained in the Roads Service database. The following road classifications are contained in OSNI Road Network;
|
| NAME | The name field is populated from the Pointer PRIMARY_THORFARE field held in POINTER. All Street names present in Pointer that are represented in OSNI Road Network are populated in the Name field. Some records in the Name field may remain blank where a road does not have a corresponding Pointer address. All abbreviated names have been expanded to the full version i.e. rd or st is now road or street. Road names have been cross checked between Roads Service, POINTER and OSNI Largescale database. POINTER name takes precedence in the event of any discrepancies between names. |
| USRN | Unique Street Reference Number - The URSN field is a direct link to the Pointer database. Not all road sections will contain a USRN. Minor tracks and unnamed thoroughfares may not have a USRN attributed to them. A USRN is a 10-digit number that uniquely identifies each Primary Thoroughfare in Pointer. The USRN uniquely identifies each named street in Road Network and is particularly useful where there is more than one street with the same name. |
| CROSSREFER | The CROSSREFER field refers to a USRN record in POINTER. The CROSSREFER field refers to instances where a row of houses along a road may have a different address to the road. For example, a row of terraced houses along a main road where there isn't a piece of road geometry distinct from the main road but the terrace name differs from the road name. |
| ENTRY_DATE | Date geometry was created in the dataset. All pieces of geometry should have an ENTRY_DATE. Each individual piece of geometry in the road network is attributed with a date. This date refers to when the geometry was updated in the road network dataset. |
| ROAD_NUMBE | Road class and number as taken from the Roads Service database. Only roads that have been adopted by Roads Service and are present in their Client Database will have a ROAD_NUMBE attribute in OSNI Road Network. ROAD_NUMBER is an alphanumerical attribute with numerical values displayed in a 4 digit format e.g. the “A44” road is displayed as “A0044”; similarly the “C19” road is displayed as “C0019” in OSNI Road Network. |
| ESU | A system generated attribute. |
| FROM_END | Elevation of the start of a road section. This field is only a representative value and does not indicate actual elevation of road surface. The FROM_END and TO_END fields are used to identify Bridges. A default value of 0 represents ground level; a value of 1 represents a road section at a higher elevation than another road, i.e. a bridge that would pass over another road. |
| TO_END | Elevation of the end of a road section This field is only a representative value and does not indicate actual elevation of road surface. The FROM_END and TO_END fields are used to identify Bridges. A default value of 0 represents ground level; a value of 1 represents a road section at a higher elevation than another road, i.e. a bridge that would pass over another road. |
| TEMP | Indicates if a road has been built but has not yet been surveyed by OSNI. This field has a default value of Null. Population of this field denotes that a road has been built but has not yet been surveyed by OSNI. This field is populated by information collected by Pointer. |
| ENABLED | A system generated attribute. |
| SHAPE_LEN | A system generated attribute. |
| GEOM | Contains the geometry for the feature. |
| GEOHUB_INTERNAL_ID | Internal Attribute |
| GEOM.AREA | Internal Attribute |
| GEOM.LEN | Internal Attribute |
