Registering to Use GeoHub NI

If you want to use the facilities offered by GeoHub NI you will need to register or be registered on the OSNI web site.

The registration process is simple, all you need to do is:

• Click this link https://maps.osni.gov.uk/ProfileAccountDetails.aspx (Opens in a new window)
• Enter a username of your choice.
• Enter a password of your choice.
• Enter your e-mail address

Why the OSNI site?

The main reasons for sharing the registration and login processes are.

• The number of users that have already registered on www.osni.gov.uk.- This web site has been running since April 2006 and has a solid userbase, many of whom would have an interest in the data hosted in GeoHub NI. It was decided to extend the functionality available to these users rather than ask them to register on another web site.
• The infrastructure already exists and it was more efficient to reuse the existing components. - Using the registration and login components from www.osni.gov.uk allows us to build on this functionality and incorporate the supply components into GeoHub NI.

Your Username...

Is used to manage the datasets you have access to. - One of the more significant areas of development in GeoHub NI is its rights management system. It allows data providers to restrict access to their data to the users they specify. You will notice that when you are in the map viewer and search for layers some of your results will have a tick box and others will not.

Behind the scenes your username has been used to filter the results. You will always know that a dataset is present on GeoHub NI, no metadata is hidden, you just might not have access to it. If you have a genuine need to access the data then you can apply to the data provider and they will decide if your permissions should be updated.
